GSEB Board Exam 2027: Official Dates for Std 10 and 12

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) has fixed the dates for the 2027 board exams. According to the board's official School Activity Calendar for 2026-27, the SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) board exams will be held from 25 February to 17 March 2027, for all streams.

The same calendar sets the dates for every school exam this year, from the first exam that begins today to the annual exams in April. This guide puts them in one place and explains what each one means for students preparing for the boards.

GSEB exam dates for 2026-27

These are the dates in GSEB's School Activity Calendar for 2026-27, issued by the board on 2 May 2026:

Exam Classes Dates
First exam Classes 9 to 12, all streams 22 October to 2 November 2026
Prelim / second exam Classes 9 to 12, all streams 18 to 28 January 2027
Prakharata Shodh Kasoti (talent search test) Class 9 30 January 2027
School-level exam in board subjects (theory and practical) Classes 10 and 12, all streams 1 to 3 February 2027
Practical exam Class 12 Science 5 to 13 February 2027
SSC / HSC board exam Classes 10 and 12, all streams 25 February to 17 March 2027
Annual school exam Classes 9 and 11, all streams 5 to 20 April 2027

GSEB's covering letter notes that these dates will change if the state government changes them, so keep an eye on official updates.

Is the subject-wise timetable out?

Not yet. The calendar gives the overall board exam window. GSEB publishes the paper-by-paper timetable for SSC and HSC separately, and it has not been released yet. We will update this guide once it is.

GUJCET, the state engineering and pharmacy entrance exam for HSC Science students, is also conducted by GSEB but announced separately. Our guide GUJCET Explained covers who needs it and how it works.

What each exam covers

GSEB has also set the syllabus for each exam:

  • First exam (Classes 9 to 12): the syllabus taught from June to September.
  • Prelims (Classes 10 and 12): the full syllabus.
  • Second exam (Classes 9 and 11): the syllabus from June to December. Of this, 30% comes from the June to September syllabus and 70% from October to December.
  • Board exams (Classes 10 and 12) and annual exams (Classes 9 and 11): the full syllabus.

For Class 10 and 12 students, this means the prelims in January are a full-length rehearsal for the boards, on the same full syllabus.

Term and vacation dates

Period Dates
First term 8 June to 4 November 2026
Diwali vacation 5 to 25 November 2026 (21 days)
Second term 26 November 2026 to 2 May 2027
Summer vacation 3 May to 6 June 2027 (35 days)
Academic year 2027-28 begins 7 June 2027

How Class 10 and 12 students can plan the next four months

From today, the board exams are about 126 days away. Working backwards from GSEB's calendar gives a clear plan:

  1. Now to 2 November: the first exam. Treat the marks as a guide to which chapters need work, not as a final verdict.
  2. Diwali vacation (5 to 25 November): three free weeks. Use them for a first full revision of what has been taught so far, and to catch up on any weak chapters before the second term starts.
  3. December: finish the remaining syllabus and start a second round of revision. Solve full question papers under timed conditions.
  4. Prelims (18 to 28 January): these cover the full syllabus, so sit them like the real board exam. Afterwards, list every mistake and fix it chapter by chapter.
  5. 1 to 13 February: school-level exams in board subjects, then practicals for Class 12 Science students. Keep a short daily revision slot running alongside.
  6. Last 12 days before 25 February: revision only, no new material. Keep the same sleep and study timings the exams will need.

For Class 9 and 11 students

Class 9 and 11 do not have board exams, but the calendar matters for them too. Their second exam in January covers June to December, with 70% from the October to December syllabus, so the chapters taught after the first exam carry the most weight. Their annual exam from 5 to 20 April covers the full year's syllabus.
